New Qualifying System is Big Hit with Ropers

San Antonio, TX (March 12, 2011) – The finals for the 29th Annual George Strait Team Roping Classic were held today at the Rose Palace in San Antonio. Forty-two year old David Key from Stephenville, TX and twenty-three year old Jade Corkill from Fallen, Nevada are the new Grand Champions. Fifty teams returned to compete in today’s finals from nearly 500 teams who competed Friday in the preliminaries. This year, founder George Strait made a significant change to how ropers qualified for Saturday finals and cowboys welcomed the new system.

MINUTES ARE TICKING AWAY TO THE 2011 GSTRC
565 Teams Pre-Registerd

San Antonio, TX.....565 Teams have pre-registered for the 29th Annual George Strait Team Roping Classic and they will begin signing up in earnest Thursday afternoon and Friday Morning. All teams need to be completely registered by 830 AM Friday morning so the competition can begin at 9am sharp. The top 50 teams from the first two go-rounds on Friday will return for a shot at the Championship and a shot at hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash plus new Chevy Silverado twin cab duallies from Cavender Chevrolet in Boerne, TX and Strait Xtreme 3-horse slant trailer from Bruton Trailers.

THE 29TH ANNUAL GSTRC JUST 7 WEEKS AWAY

San Antonio, TX (January 19, 2011) -- The 29th Annual George Strait Team Roping Classic (GSTRC) is scheduled to take place Friday and Saturday, March 11 & 12, 2011 at the San Antonio Rose Palace in San Antonio, Texas. The event, which originated as a small family roping by George and his brother Buddy in 1982, has grown into the most prestigious open Team Roping competition in the country. The GSTRC has become the premiere open in the sport with hundreds of thousands of dollars up for grabs each year.

James Jenkins, Jr Shows Up To Witness The Event

San Antonio, TX--Actor James Pickens, Jr., best known as Chief Richard Webber on the ABC series, 'Grey's Anatomy,' is a true team roping fan and showed up at the 28th Annual GSTRC to try and get some pointers from George Strait on how to run a successful event like his. The gracious actor, who is also a board member of the PRCA, met with Strait after the event to try and pick his brain for ideas about an event that Pickens wants to start in California. The actor was very gracious with the fans, taking time out for many photos, including Strait's neice Kara Strait Silva and Strait's Fan Club Preisdent Anita O'Brian

COLEMAN PROCTOR AND JAKE LONG NAMED GRAND CHAMPIONS OF THE 28TH ANNUALGEORGE STRAIT TEAM ROPING CLASSIC

San Antonio, TN (March 13, 2010) – Header Jake Long (26) and Heeler Coleman Proctor (25) have been best friends since toddlers. They’ve roped together since kids and dreamed of a moment like today for many years. After two days of intense competition, the dust settled and it was the two young men who beat out 468 other teams to become the Grand Prize winners of the prestigious GSTRC. The Long-Coleman team finished with a 14.93 combined time and rode away with custom painted GSTRC Championship Chevy Silverado Duallies from Cavendar Chevrolet (Boerne, TX), Strait X-treme horse trailers from Bruton Trailers, Twister saddles from Tractor Supply, Resitol roping bags, jackets from Wrangler and Justin, Gist belt buckles and half of the $159,630 cash payoff.

Saturday Tickets Sell Out In 2 Minutes

San Antonio, TX---All available tickets to the 2010 George Strait Team Roping Classic have been sold out. The event, sponsored by Cavender Chevrolet of Boerne, TX and Bruton Trailers will be March 12th & 13th of next year. The Saturday tickets sold out in just two minutes with the Friday tickets selling out later in the day.
